Spain, Italy and Real Estate Summary from Markets Day

Markets Day at Debtwire Week took a closer look at opportunities in Southern Europe and Real Estate.

Markets Day opened with views on the direct lending and private equity markets in Spain. The progress of bankruptcy reform, including common structural and legal problems in Spanish debt transactions, was also a focus.  Trends in Southern Europe non-performing loans are a focus for the Real Estate Investor Forum, with discussions in the Italian Restructuring Forum focussed on the outlook for distressed opportunities.

The private equity outlook in Spain was a discussion chaired by Jacques McChesney from Shearman and Sterling provided an overview of the issues and trends driving the market. The conversation included their views on the dynamics of the debt financing market.

Head of Debtwire's NPL Coverage, Alessia Pirolo, updated the audience on the Italian non-performing loan market. The session considered what asset managers are doing with portfolios post-acquisition.

Panellists discussed the opportunity for distressed investors deploying capital in Italy. Antonio Vanuzzo from Debtwire asked the questions to a panel of fund managers.
