The Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) USD high-yield primary market continued its recovery last month, with the week of 6 July registering the biggest weekly volume – USD 5.15bn via 11 deals – since 27 January.

Total issuance volume for July was at USD 11.72bn across 32 deals, up 38.7% from the USD 8.45bn printed via 31 deals in June 2020, but still down 15.4% from USD 13.86bn across 41 deals in July 2019.

Volumes have increased steadily since April when USD 1.25bn aggregated principal of bonds were issued across five deals. A total of USD 2.58bn via 13 issues was priced in May.

Chinese property developers accounted for 65.2% of the region’s total volume in July 2020, while non-Chinese issuers contributed 22% and Chinese non-real-estate companies the remaining 12.8%.
