Jon Berke, Editor of Debtwire Middle Market North America, hosts an Olympic-themed edition of the Middle Market Junction podcast.
The sporting goods retail space went through a good deal of consolidation and liquidation over the past half year. One-time category leader Sports Authority is liquidating in bankruptcy proceedings, while smaller hockey specialist Total Hockey also filed for bankruptcy but got sold to TSG Enterprises in a $22.5m going concern bid in which the latter company only shed eight leases in the deal.
Discussing these issues on the Middle Market Junction Podcast are veteran retail banker Billy Susman of Threadstone Partners along with Debtwire Reporter Danielle Randall and Associate Editor Reshmi Basu.
The discussion is this edition of the Middle Market podcast focuses on the fall of Sports Authority and how the success of the next generation of sports retailers will depend on their ability to balance their bricks-and-mortar and e-commerce efforts. This also includes balancing their relationship with mega-brands such as Under Armour and Nike.
This podcast was recorded on August 11, 2016.
